What Is the Best Place for Non-Custodial Stop Loss and Take Profit?

non-custodial stop loss and take profit

The best place to set a non-custodial stop loss and take profit is a DEX that supports trigger orders signed from your own wallet. You connect a wallet instead of depositing funds on an exchange, and your tokens stay in that wallet until the order executes.

On KyberSwap, you can do both on EVM chains. Stop Market swaps your tokens when the price falls to a trigger you set, which works as a stop loss. A Limit Order sells at a price above the market, which works as a take profit.

What Are Stop Loss and Take Profit Orders?

A stop loss sells a token when its price falls to a level you choose, so a losing trade does not get worse. A take profit sells a token when its price rises to a level you choose, so you lock in a gain without watching the chart.

Traders often use both at once: one order to cap the downside, one to secure the upside.

When Do You Need a Stop Loss on a DEX?

You need a stop loss on a DEX when your tokens sit in your own wallet and you cannot watch the price all the time. These are the most common situations.

Your tokens are in your wallet, not on an exchange. Most stop loss tools live on centralized exchanges, and an exchange can only sell tokens it holds. Setting a stop loss there means depositing first, leaving your funds with the exchange while the order waits, and withdrawing later. A DEX stop loss protects your tokens where they already are.

The drop happens while you sleep. Crypto trades 24/7. Without an order in place, a sharp move overnight is one you only see in the morning.

You would otherwise sell by hand in a crash. Selling manually means rushing through a swap exactly when prices move fastest. A trigger you set in advance makes that decision for you.

You already have a take profit. A Limit Order covers the upside. Without a stop loss, nothing covers the downside.

Where Can You Set a Non-Custodial Stop Loss and Take Profit?

Several decentralized platforms now support stop loss and take profit. They differ in chains, in where your tokens sit while the order waits, and in how they charge.

KyberSwap

KyberSwap supports both on EVM chains. Stop Market handles the stop loss, and a Limit Order handles the take profit. In both cases, your tokens stay in your wallet until the order executes. The next section explains how each works.

Jupiter

On Solana, Jupiter offers Take Profit and Stop Loss through its Limit Order V2, including one-cancels-other pairs and a trailing stop loss. While an order is active, your tokens sit in a program-owned vault rather than in your wallet. Jupiter charges a base fee of 0.03% on stable or pegged pairs and 0.1% on other pairs, plus a routing fee of 0% to 0.5%.

Hyperliquid

Hyperliquid offers take profit and stop loss orders on trading positions. They are triggered by the mark price and can be set as market or limit orders. It suits traders managing leveraged positions rather than spot holdings in a wallet.

How Do Stop Loss and Take Profit Work on KyberSwap?

On KyberSwap, you set a stop loss with Stop Market and a take profit with a Limit Order. Both are signed from your wallet, and neither locks your tokens or transfers them to KyberSwap.

Stop Loss With Stop Market

Stop Market automatically swaps a token once its price reaches a trigger you set below the current price.

How it triggers. The order is checked against a Chainlink-powered Oracle price every 5 seconds. It executes when two conditions are met: the Oracle price reaches your trigger, and the swap can return at least your Min. Receive.

How it executes. The swap is routed through the KyberSwap Aggregator at the market price available at that time. Min. Receive is calculated from your trigger price, minus your maximum slippage and the fee, and you see it before you sign. If no route meets Min. Receive, the order shows as Retrying and keeps being checked.

What it costs. Placing, editing and cancelling a Stop Market order are free. A fee is charged only on execution and covers both the protocol fee and gas. It ranges from 0.015% to 1%, depending on the volatility level of the tokens, with a minimum fee per chain. A first-time token approval is an on-chain transaction that requires gas, once per token per chain.

To set one up, open the Limit Order tab, select Stop Market in the sub-toggle, then fill in You Sell, Trigger at, Max slippage and Expires in.

Take Profit With a Limit Order

For a target above the current price, use a Limit Order. A sell Limit Order only sells at your price or better, so it waits for the price to rise. That is why it works as a take profit, and why the stop loss side needs Stop Market.

Signing a Limit Order does not require gas, and the taker pays the gas fee and taker fee to settle it. A KyberSwap Limit Order locks in a fixed rate when you sign it. You can cancel it with Gasless Cancel, which can take up to 5 minutes if the order was recently shared with a taker.

Exit Conditions for Liquidity Positions With Smart Exit

If you provide liquidity rather than hold tokens, Smart Exit lets you set automatic exit conditions for a liquidity position. You can set a Pool Price condition as Price ≥ target or Price ≤ target, alongside Fee Yield and time-based conditions.

Creating and cancelling a Smart Exit order is gasless. Execution requires an on-chain transaction, and its gas is reimbursed from the position’s exit output tokens.

What Are the Limits of a Non-Custodial Stop Loss?

A non-custodial stop loss does not guarantee execution at your trigger price. Because your tokens stay in your wallet and the trade settles on-chain, a few conditions must line up when the trigger is reached.

The trigger is not the execution price. On KyberSwap, the trigger price sets when the order runs. Min. Receive sets the least you can receive.

Liquidity has to be there. If a swap cannot return at least your Min. Receive, a Stop Market order shows as Retrying and your tokens stay in your wallet.

Your balance and approval must still cover the order. The order fills the smallest of the order amount, your balance and your allowance. If you move tokens out of your wallet, the order may be Partial Executed.

High gas can pause execution. Attempts pause when gas would take more than 90% of the fee. Small orders wait most often, because their fee covers less gas.

The Oracle and the chart can differ. The Oracle price used for triggering can differ slightly from the price on the chart.

The token needs a valid price feed. A token must have a Chainlink price feed on that chain. Execution stops if the feed is deprecated, flagged as unsafe, or older than its heartbeat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are My Tokens Locked While a Stop Market Order Waits?

No. Your tokens stay in your wallet, and nothing is locked or transferred to KyberSwap. The order executes only against the balance and token approval available at execution time.

Does Setting a Stop Loss on KyberSwap Cost Gas?

No. Creating a Stop Market order is a free signature. A first-time token approval requires gas, and execution gas is covered by the fee charged when the order executes.

Can I Set Stop Loss and Take Profit on the Same Token?

Yes. You can place a Stop Market order below the current price and a Limit Order above it. They are separate orders, so when one executes, cancel the other. Keep enough balance in your wallet to cover both, because each order executes only against the balance available at that time.

Which Platform Should You Use?

If you hold tokens on EVM chains and want to keep them in your own wallet, KyberSwap lets you set both sides of the trade: Stop Market for the stop loss and a Limit Order for the take profit. Placing, editing and cancelling a Stop Market order are free, and you pay a fee only when it executes.

If you trade on Solana, Jupiter’s Limit Order V2 offers take profit and stop loss, with your tokens held in a program-owned vault while the order is active. If you manage leveraged positions, a perpetuals platform with TP/SL orders fits better.

Whichever you choose, remember that a non-custodial stop loss depends on liquidity, your wallet balance and network conditions when the trigger is reached.

To set your first order, open the Limit Order tab on KyberSwap, select Stop Market, and enter your trigger price.
