Hey Kyber community! It has been a while since we participated in an ETHGlobal hackathon, so we’re very happy to be one of the sponsors for ETHIndia, happening from August 2nd — 4th! ETHIndia is organized by Devfolio in partnership with ETHGlobal.
We are looking forward to be in Bangalore, together with over 500 talented hackers coming from different parts of India, to build exciting new decentralized applications on top of Ethereum. Refer to our previous recaps of ETHSingapore and ETHSanFrancisco to get a feel of what has been built with Kyber before, such as payment solutions, arbitrage bots, and DeFi use cases. For example, InstaDApp, one of the most popular DeFi platforms today, is also powered by Kyber and a previous winner of ETHIndia.
As always, we are excited to see what kind of innovative projects will emerge from the ETHIndia hackathon this year!
What is Kyber?
Kyber is a fully on-chain liquidity protocol that allows decentralized token swaps to be integrated into wallets, applications, and platforms. There are 4 major areas where developers are leveraging the protocol (we are excited for you to discover other areas and tell us more!)
1. End User Token Swaps
The simplest use-case is to enable users to easily swap from one ERC20 token to another, including ETH. You can see this functionality in popular wallets like MyEtherWallet, HTC Exodus, imToken, Trust, and Enjin Wallet, and on websites such as KyberSwap.com and Shiftly.finance
2. Trading Integrations
Exchanges (both centralised and decentralised), traders and arbitrage bots can all leverage the liquidity offered on Kyber to match orders, or to arbitrage for profit. You can do this either through our Trading APIs or by directly interacting with our smart contracts.
3. Decentralized Payments
Widen your payment options with Kyber for virtual collectibles (in the form of non-fungible tokens) from just Ether to include all supported ERC20 tokens on Kyber, whilst receiving the currency of your choice, such as DAI, TUSD or USDC. Examples include Hodlmoon, Chainfuel, Axie Infinity, and Decentraland.
4. Decentralised Finance
Kyber significantly reduces barriers towards developing complicated DeFi DApps that require on-chain price feeds and instant fund rebalancing, as one can see in Melon, Betoken, Set, Nuo and bZx/Fulcrum.
#BUIDLwithKyber and Win!
The aforementioned areas are those that we currently support, but there are other potential use cases that our liquidity protocol can enable.
We have 2 reward categories where you can showcase your creativity, with a total of $2,550 USD worth of KNC tokens up for grabs! Submissions to both categories are allowed.
Kyber’s Developer Portal and Hackathon Bounty Page provides all the necessary documentation to get started.
Category 1: Themed Bounties
1) Permissionless Liquidity Contributions
Design and create a new reserve type that incentivises anyone to contribute liquidity through a simple, intuitive user interface, without the need for KYC. Alternatively, improve or streamline the existing process for liquidity contribution to the orderbook reserve on Kyber.
Prize Amount: 2 teams stand to win up to $600 USD each!
2) KyberWidget Modification
The KyberWidget currently interacts directly with the KyberNetworkProxy contract only. It would be great if it could interact with wrapper contracts (contracts that talk to the application contract and KyberNetworkProxy contract) as well, by allowing the developer to configure the wrapper contract address and smart contract function to be called and to be easily embedded into websites.
Prize Amount: 2 teams stand to win up to $300 USD each!
Category 2: Open Category Prizes
If you have ideas that are better than the ones we proposed, feel free to work on it! Build a DApp that utilises Kyber natively for token swaps, payments, liquidity, or DeFi. Dig into our tech, use it in a cool way and surprise us!
Prize Amount: 5 teams stand to win up to $150 USD each!
